AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE 2001 PAY SCALE FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OFFICERS AND EXPENSE REIMBURSEMENT RATE OF THE VOLUNTEER FIRE FIGHTERS OF THE VILLAGE OF WEST LAFAYETTE, OHIO, TO REPEAL ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT THEREWITH, AND TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, in order to compensate the Officers of the Fire Department of the Village of West Lafayette, State of Ohio properly;

WHEREAS, the Volunteer Firemen of the Fire Department of the Village of West Lafayette, State of Ohio, have indicated that they are willing to forego remuneration for their services in order to allow the Village of West Lafayette, State of Ohio, to borrow money and finance the purchase of a 1996 Freightliner FL70 tanker; and

WHEREAS, it is necessary to adjust and modify the pay scales and reimbursement rate for the various classes and ranks of the Fire Department of the Village of West Lafayette, Ohio, State of Ohio, in order to have satisfactory rates for the calendar year 2001 and to allow the financing of said 1996 Freightliner FL70 tanker.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the Council of the Village of West Lafayette, State of Ohio, as follows:

SECTION I:    The rates of compensation and reimbursement of various officers and firemen of the Fire Department of the Village of West Lafayette, State of Ohio, effective January 1, 2001 shall be and herewith are established as follows.

Fire Chief                                 $600.00 per year, to be paid annually

Assistant Chief                          $500.00 per year, to be paid annually

Volunteer Firemen                    no pay, reimbursements, emoluments, stipends, entitlements, or monetary benefits of any form for runs

SECTION II:   This Ordinance to the extent it repeals reimbursements for runs for Volunteer Fireman shall be prospective only and shall not apply to reimbursements for runs which have been made before the effective date of this Ordinance.

SECTION III:  All provisions of Ordinances including but not limited to Ordinance No. 42-2000 and Resolutions inconsistent with the provisions herein shall be and herewith are repealed to the extent they otherwise would be applicable to the pay rates, reimbursements, emoluments, stipends entitlements, and monetary benefits of any form of the above pay categories and classifications on and after January 1, 2001; otherwise however, they shall remain in full force and effect.

SECTION IV: This Ordinance shall be and herewith is declared to be an emergency measure, necessary for the health and welfare and safety of the Village of West Lafayette, Ohio, the emergency being the need to provide for a proper pay scale and to allow the financing of a 1996 Freightliner FL70 tanker so as to allow the proper functioning and provision of improved equipment of the Fire Department of the Village of West Lafayette, State of Ohio, so as to protect the lives and property of the citizens of the Village, and this Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon passage by Council.
