Minutes of West Lafayette Village
Council Regular Meeting on April 8, 2002
West Lafayette Village Council met in regular session at 7:00 P.M., in the
municipal building with Mayor Jack Patterson presiding.
Pledge of Allegiance
Roll Call: Dave Rogers, Roger Warne, Kelly Gossett, Ron Lusk, Jan
Shannon and
Steve Bordenkircher (6 members present)
A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes from the March 25,
2002, council meeting. (R.C. 5 yes 1 abstention)
Kay Lane, President of the Board of Precious Treasures Day Care, was present
to obtain more information on the pool rates for the 2002 season. The new
day care category will affect their use of the pool and they need to plan
for the changes. She requested that in the future the pool committee notify
them as soon as possible when rates changes are made.
Ken Smailes introduced Diane Merrill, a new reporter for WTNS Radio.
Reports
Village Administrator – The bid opening for the River Front Estates
Lift Station was held last week and there was only one bidder. Robertson Excavating
submitted a bid of $38,000, which was $3000 over the engineers estimate. GGC
Engineers are in the process of reviewing the bid prior to recommending council
accept it. Paving on Main Street has been completed and we are in the process
of doing the cleanup. Next week the street crew will start repairing alleys
in the village. A proposal for mosquito spraying this summer has been received
but it is considerably higher than last year.
Police (Chief) – The monthly report for March was given.

Number of Calls: 278
Annexation (Lusk) – The county commissioners have approved the
north end annexation, which will be presented to council at the June 10th
meeting.
Fire (Shannon) – There was a general discussion about the formation
of a fire district for the surrounding townships and village.
Pool (Rogers) – The committee met last week and review 3 lifeguard
applications. They were passed on to the VA for appointment when appropriate.
Repairs have started and should be completed by season opening.
Chamber of Commerce (Rogers) – The theme for the Homecoming will
be “Home Town Heroes” this year.

A motion was made and seconded to approve the bills presented for payment.
(R.C. 6 yes)
A motion was made and seconded to adjourn until the next regularly scheduled
meeting on April 22, 2002, at 7 PM in the council chambers. (RC 6 yes)
